When should your ladders be tested?


In compliance with NFPA 1932: "Standards on Use, Maintenance, and Services, Testing of In-Service Fire Department Ground Ladders" service testing shall be performed:


  • Before the ladder is placed in service
  • At least annually
  • At any time the ladder is suspected of being unsafe
  • After the ladder has been subjected to overloading or impact loading
  • Whenever the ladder has been suspected of being exposed to direct flame contact
  • Whenever the heat sensor labels has changed to indicate heat exposure

PUMPERS

Chapter 19, also stipulates when the "NDT" non-destructive testing is to be performed:

  • At least every 5 years
  • Whenever there is an indication of a potential structural or safety problem
  • To confirm continued operational safety

When should your pumpers be tested?


In compliance with NFPA 1911, "Standards for the Inspection, Maintenance, Testing, and Retirement of In-Service Automotive Fire Apparatus".  Chapter 18, Performance Testing of Fire Pumps and Industrial Supply Pumps.


  • At least annually
  • After major repairs or overhaul
  • Modifications to components used in pump operations
  • Includes apparatus equipped with a fire pump or an industrial supply pump

When should your aerial be tested?


In compliance with NFPA 1911, "Standard for the Inspection, Maintenance, Testing, and Retirement of In-Service Automotive Fire Apparatus", Chapter 19, Performance Testing of Aerial Devices.

  • At least annually
  • After major repairs or overhaul
  • when the aerial device could have been subjected to undue stress or load
  • When the usage has exceeded the manufactures recommended operating procedure
